Description
Thursday, November 14, 2024 @ 4:00PM 19 Black House Dr Ellsworth, ME 04605 Atlantic Puffins once flourished on many nesting islands along Maine's coast. These unique looking birds were hunted for their meat and feathers, and subjected to detrimental egg collection. As a result, they were eliminated from all but one of their nesting islands in Maine by the late 1800s. Nearly 100 years later, a young scientist named Stephen Kress began an effort, known as Project Puffin, to restore puffins to Eastern Egg Rock. To lure puffins to the island a method called Social Attraction was developed. Come learn about the remarkable story of Project Puffin and how research in the Gulf of Maine is impacting seabirds around the world. During a presentation by Project Puffin Visitor Center Manager, Susie Meadows, you will paint your very own Least Tern decoy, just like the decoys used to restore seabird colonies worldwide. Individual tickets include entry for one participant, one decoy, paint set and complimentary beverage. Couple tickets include entry for two participants, one decoy, paint set and two complimentary beverages You must be 21 years of age or older to consume alcohol.
