EDUCATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION WORKSHOPS

Heart of Ellsworth, with support from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Hart Family Fund for Small Towns, and sponsored by Nate Holyoke Builders, is pleased to announce an upcoming workshop series focused on historic preservation. Heart of Ellsworth has retained Maine Preservation to lead the workshop series. Additional local support from Design Group Collaborative, City of Ellsworth, and the Ellsworth Historical Society. These workshops will occur at the Ellsworth Public Library on March 28th, April 11th, and April 25th at 5:30 pm. The workshop series will educate participants on the principles and practices of historic preservation, focusing on preserving Ellsworth's rich architectural heritage. Participants will learn about the preservation field's origins and significance in shaping communities, strategies for funding preservation projects, and techniques for rehabilitating historic buildings while meeting contemporary needs and standards. Attend one workshop or attend them all. FOUNDATIONS OF PRESERVATION - MARCH 28 - 5:30 - 7 PM Participants will explore the history of the preservation movement and learn how to identify and support the historic buildings and places that contribute to Ellsworth's unique character. FUNDING YOUR PRESERVATION PROJECT - APRIL 11 - 5:30 - 6:30 PM This session will provide information on funding sources for preservation projects, including historic rehabilitation tax credits and grant programs. MAKING OLD PLACES NEW AGAIN - APRIL 25 - 5:30 - 6:30 PM Participants will learn about rehabilitation techniques and strategies for integrating modern systems while preserving the historic integrity of buildings. “It’s an honor and a privilege to receive National Trust for Historic Preservation funding, it shows historic preservation's role in revitalizing place. By partnering with experts in the field, Maine Preservation, with support from local companies like Nate Holyoke Builders and Design Group Collaborative, we can work together to preserve Ellsworth’s historic charter, vital to maintaining the charm of our city. Programming like this provides valuable knowledge and resources while elevating ongoing partnerships in the community. We are grateful for this critical funding and the partnerships this workshop series will foster,” said Cara Romano, Heart of Ellsworth’s Executive Director. The workshop series is open to all residents, building and business owners, nonprofit organizations, and developers interested in historic preservation.
